Hot Rocks Game Basics and Rules
A 6 reel, 5 row slot machine sensation - with a volcanic backdrop and gemstone theme - it has a bevy of explosive special features beyond pretty much anything we've ever seen, which you can skip down to read up on now if you're just waiting for that. Otherwise, let's do a quick walkthrough of this game's basic setup and commands.
What you'll essentially be doing is setting a bet amount, spinning the reels, and waiting for the random number generator (RNG) to determine where the symbols settle, ultimately determining a win, or loss.
To set your bet, you'll need to click on the icon with a stack of chips (bottom right corner of your screen). This will open up to a window with the options available, ranging from $0.10 up to $1,000. Select whichever works for you with another quick click, then press the 'X' in the top right corner to get back to the main board.
Now that you've set your bet, you're ready to spin, which of course means a press of the spin button. Here it looks like a play button, like you'd find on any stereo or remote control.
Next to that is the autoplay button, which is an icon that consists of a play button, plus a circular arrow over it. You can set the auto play feature for 10 up to 1,000 spins in a row; alongside modifiers like a loss limit, or a full stop for wins or free games, to keep you in better control.
In the far-left bottom corner of your game screen is an icon with three horizontal lines. There you can view the game's information, control the music and sound effects, activate turbo play, or speed things up even further with the super turbo option.
And at all times, centre bottom of your screen, you can see your casino balance, wins (should you be so lucky), and current bet value (which can of course be adjusted after each round of play).
Play Hot Rocks Online for Free in Demo Mode
Stake offers you the option to play Hot Rocks slots for free. In fact, the Stake UI is so user-friendly that you can easily toggle between 'Fun Play' and 'Real Play' at any point, which is a convenience we totally appreciate.
The demo mode is good really, in our opinion, as it's the same game, with all the same features that you'll experience in real money mode.
This means you're going to get a true to life feel for how this game plays out, without risking a cent (or a dime in this case, since that's the minimum bet).

Hot Rocks Betting Limits
Just to clarify for anyone skimming this slots review, the betting limits on this game are an excellent range.
With the ability to bet as low as $0.10 per spin or as much as $1,000, you will easily be able to find your comfort zone. While technically a high roller crypto slot for its accommodation of such large sums, you obviously don't have to be one yourself to fully enjoy the Hot Rocks gambling experience.
Hot Rocks Slots Paytable
The shiny rocks and glimmering gems are the paying symbols in this volcanic game. As this paytable indicates, these are the prize levels up for grabs for each symbol combination.
Symbol | Minimum profit 8 symbols | Maximum profit 15 symbols |
---|---|---|
X2.5 | X50 | |
X1 | X15 | |
X0.8 | X10 | |
X0.5 | X8 | |
X0.2 | X4 | |
X0.1 | X3 |
Since it's not a straight payline setup, just note that you'll need at least 8 of a given symbol anywhere on the reels to form a winning combination, while 15-30 of the same symbol will grant you that symbol's top prize.
The most you can win by the way is 25,000X your bet in base game play, as illustrated in this chart. Though the bonus buy and enhancer modes can double that return to 50,000X, as we'll cover in the next section of this review.
Hot Rocks Bonus Features
Moving on to the bonus features, here's where things get a little complicated, or exciting, depending how you choose to look at it. That's because in addition to a few of the "regular" extras, this online slot machine has quite a few unique twists packed in, that are actually easiest to understand as you play.
1.) Cluster wins
Cluster wins is something we always love, which basically is like the tumble function. Except here since wins are paid in groupings rather than lines, hence the name.
Basically what happens is that each time you form a winning combination, it will burst off screen, and new symbols will drop down to fill their space. If you're lucky, another win will be formed, and the same process will happen again; so you can win multiple times essentially on a single wager/spin.
2.) Multiplier reel
Undoubtedly, the standout feature of this game is the unique multiplier reel. This is actually a row above the main game board, which has 15 spots within. The first such slot, to the far left, is the one that's considered active. That is, the multiplier that is displayed in a numerical format (from 2X up to 125X) in that position will be applied to a win.
3.) Bonus field
The potential bonus levels as they're called here are:
Boost - This moves the multiplier reel a random number of positions from right to left, which in turn can increase the multiplier you receive, as multipliers are always displayed in this reel in ascending amounts from left to right. | |
Symbol blast - Here a random number of symbols are blasted off screen, with new ones cascading in to potentially create bigger wins. | |
Add wilds - With this bonus you get a random number of wild symbols added to the reels, which again is a powerful tool for completing and extending prize pays. | |
Multiply - For exponential rewards, this symbol increases the current multiplier by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 6X, 8X. or 10X. |
4.) Free spins bonus round
The free spin fun can be continued by additional scatter symbols landed during free spin play. Again here, it's the scatter symbols that activate an extension of the bonus round at a rate of:
- 4 scatter symbols = 5 free spins
- 5 scatter symbols = 6 free spins
- 6 scatter symbols = 7 free spins
- 7 scatter symbols = 8 free spins
- 8 scatter symbols = 9 free spins
- 9 scatter symbols = 10 free spins
5.) Enhanced modes
Hot Rocks slots also has two enhancer modes.
- Enhancer 1 increases your chances of triggering the free spins feature by 4-fold, for a fee of 2X your current bet.
- Enhancer 2 doubles that. So you increase your chances of triggering the free spins feature by 8-fold, for a fee of 4X your current bet.
The top prize in these modes is also up to 50,000 times your bet, making it all the more enticing.
6.) Bonus buy options
Hot Rocks also has three separate bonus buy options.
- Bonus buy 1 costs 100X your bet and gives you 8 or more free games.
- Bonus buy 2 can be purchased for a fee of 250X your bet and gets you 10 or more free spins.
- And bonus buy 3 at 750X your bet is needless to say the priciest of the lot, but it also gives you the highest potential return, with 12 or more free rounds.
Streamers Who Play the Exclusive Hot Rocks Game
Hot Rocks slots is a relatively new online slot machine, so it's just gaining in momentum. However, considering most streamers are Stake loyalists, they know exactly when a new game hits, and exactly how to pump that potential.
As such, from the get-go, Hot Rocks debuted in the live sessions of a number of influencers. FilthyGamblers, for example, is one slots streamer who's already been showcasing it. And plenty more, we'd imagine are on the way since it accommodates high roller crypto betting and lots of bonus features - both important factors to top streamers looking to entertain.
Play Hot Rocks on Mobile
As such, this was all essentially a roundabout way to say that of course Hot Rocks slots can be played on your cell phone or tablet. For many that's even the preferred route as it is oh so convenient. And with excellent graphics that shrink down to fit any screen size, you'll still be able to catch all the details as you hopefully rake in all those bonus extras.
Hot Rocks FAQs
Still wondering what puts the sizzle in this game? Or have a question on how to optimise your Hot Rocks play? Excellent! This FAQ section was written for you!

- Are the game enhancers worth the cost in Hot Rocks?
- Is Hot Rocks' RTP considered high?

- What are the Big Wins and Lucky Wins I see under the game?
1.) Is Hot Rocks a Stake original game?
Hot Rocks is not a Stake original game as it was not developed by Stake casino itself, technically. Rather it is the creation of Massive Studios, a software company that works under the umbrella of Carrot Gaming, which does happen to be owned by the same parent company as Stake, being Easygo.
Easygo, by the way, is also the owner of the Kick platform, so you can see how these entities are all interconnected, and understand the privilege each holds in the other's domain. Hence, you'll see Stake streamers playing on Kick, and often Massive Studios originals like Hot Rocks as a result.
Back to FAQ2.) Which provider created Hot Rocks slots?
Like we just said, Hot Rocks was developed and animated by the talented Massive Studios team. Massive Studios for its part is a Carrot Gaming brand which is also behind other software houses like Twist Gaming and Titan Gaming, which are also only available at Stake.
Back to FAQ3.) Can I play Hot Rocks anywhere besides Stake?
Again, for those just skimming for questions that interest them, the answer to this is clear. Hot Rocks is a Stake casino exclusive. In fact, all Massive Studios games like Drac's Stacks, Bonsai Banzai, and Super Mega Monsters are only available at Stake; another advantage of this crypto casino, and the type of differentiator that helps keep it on top.
Back to FAQ4.) Do I need to download a casino app to play Hot Rocks slots?
Nope, when you play at Stake you don't need to download a thing. Stake is a browser-based casino, which means as that reads. You visit the casino direct from your web browser whether that's on your computer or phone. There is never any download of anything needed. Simple and convenient as that.
Back to FAQ5.) Which currencies can I use to bet on Hot Rocks?
You can use any fiat or crypto currency that Stake casino accepts to bet on Hot Rocks slots.
On the traditional currency end, the options include Canadian dollars, Brazilian reals, Turkish lira, Indian rupees, Japanese yen, Vietnamese Dong, and a handful of others.
If you're more interested in the crypto gambling aspect - which is really what Stake is about in our opinion - then you have even more choice, with just over 20 different digital currencies accepted including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, USD Coin, Dogecoin, Solana, Litecoin, and a whole bunch more.
→ Tip: If you don't yet have crypto, by the way, and this is something that interests you, Stake offers you the option to buy it from your casino wallet, then proceed with your gambling experience from there.
Back to FAQ6.) What is the theme of Hot Rocks slots?
The theme of Hot Rocks slots is we'd say something along the lines of gem mining in the volcano, by the glow of the moon. With an outer space backdrop, mesmerising jagged rocks, and glowing fluorescent colours, it's truly quite enthralling. And the riveting soundtrack without a doubt solidifies the atmosphere.
Massive Studios, by the way, is known for its excellent graphics and themes, so if you're familiar with its unique slots, then you'll feel its fingers on the design with every spin. But even if you're not, there's no missing the artistry and attention to stunning detail here - something any discerning player can appreciate.
Back to FAQ7.) Which Hot Rocks bonus buy option is best?
Buying bonus buys in online slots is a decision that depends on several factors, including your bankroll, risk tolerance, and the specific game you're playing. Bonus buys are great for those who enjoy instant gratification, as you can skip the waiting game and trigger the bonus round immediately. Plus, the bonus round generally offers more winning opportunity than regular play.
However, there is no guarantee what results a Hot Rocks bonus buy will deliver, and they're not cheap! The first option here costs 100X your bet, then 250X, and finally 750X. The advantage of the first option is obviously that it's the least expensive and you get at least 8 free spins. The second option however is where the potential top prize is doubled to 50,000X (which continues in option number 3 as well).
So which do we recommend? None in particular to be honest, as this game has enough going on without making that move. However, if you have the bankroll and desire, then of course there's no reason not to try and see how that pans out for you.
Back to FAQ8.) Are the game enhancers worth the cost in Hot Rocks?
The Hot Rocks game enhancers may actually be a better option. True, they don't guarantee free spins, but they increase the odds by a lot. Plus, they don't cost a lot here (2X your current bet and 4X your current bet respectively), so you're unlikely to break the bank trying at least every now and then.
And most importantly of all, the game enhancers also put that 50,000X top prize on the table, which at $1,000 max bet in this game, you can imagine can deliver some serious jackpot cash!
Back to FAQ9.) Is Hot Rocks' RTP considered high?
Hot Rock's RTP is 96.65% which means that the game has a house edge of 3.35%. This we'd say is definitely a solid return to player, but well within the norm of online slots. Though note, compared to some of the other slots we've reviewed recently like the enhanced RTP slots line at Stake or the Stake original Scarab Spin game, it's definitely more than a full percentage point less.
However, few of us make our slots choice exclusively based on RTP. And since this one like we said is totally solid, you should feel comfortable choosing it for its style and bonus rounds, backed by respectable odds.
Back to FAQ10.) Is the Hot Rocks slots machine available in all countries?
Stake casino is not available in all countries. For example, it's technically blocked in the US, Australia, the Netherlands, France, and several other regions due to local gambling regulations. As such, the same could be said of Hot Rocks slots.
A VPN can usually be used to bypass these restrictions, but it's important to be aware of the legal and security implications.
Also, if you're in the US, note that Stake has come out with a social casino option, Stake.us, which will hopefully change to real money play some day when legislation changes, and it's working on a Stake.ca site for players in places like Ontario, Canada.
Back to FAQ11.) What are the Big Wins and Lucky Wins I see under the game?
Stake casino has a highly active social element. You can see that in the player chat which is a constant stream. It's also made clear in how it encourages streamer partnerships and sports ambassadorships, for engagement with players. And you can feel it in other areas, like how Stake prominently shares various players' achievements.
To see what we mean, have a look beneath the Hot Rocks board when you play, and click to open the four tabs 'Big Wins', 'Lucky Wins', 'Challenges', and 'Description'. The first two are going to inspire you in terms of the all-time biggest winners on this game - including details on how much they bet and their ultimate payout.

As lovers of the Carrot Gaming brands like Massive Studios, we were super excited when Hot Rocks hit in late 2024.
