Hex Appeal Game Basics and Rules
Released on May 29, 2025, Hex Appeal is the newest slot in the Massive Studios library at the time of writing this review; though Gold Mega Stepper is coming up soon.
But at its core, beyond the detailed fantasy world it's created, Hex Appeal is more or less a classic online slots game with a 5 reel, 6 row build, and 50 paylines across which to form wins.
The goal of the game is to place a bet, and hopefully win. In between are a few commands, to adjust how and when the action takes place.
So first when opening the game, look to the bottom right corner of your screen. There you'll see that the game opens automatically to a $1 bet. This is a nice amount, that's not too scary for most budgets, though it can be low for some, so feel free to adjust.
To do so, click on the stack of chips icon and select an amount ranging from as little as $0.10 up to $1,000. Once you've done that, you'll see the bet amount onscreen has been adjusted and you're ready to spin.
This is done by clicking on the play button (as it looks on any device like your TV's remote control). The reels will then spin and symbols will settle into place, to one of three possibilities:
- You win the amount as shown on screen, and that cash is added to your balance (yay!).
- A bonus feature is initiated and you go on to play from there.
- You lose and experience the (temporary) jinx element of the game, moving on to the next spin and hopefully better luck there.
If you have a set bet amount in mind you'd like to play consistently, then you may opt for auto play to make it all the easier. We personally wouldn't do more than 100 in a row. But that's up to you.
Then, just to the left of that is a button with three horizonal lines that opens the 'Main Menu' and grants you access to controls of the audio effects, speed of the game, and general information including its paytable and bonus feature summary.
Play Hex Appeal Online for Free
One of the great things about Stake casino, amongst other things, is that it allows you to play almost all of its slots for free, even before registering an account.
This is a terrific way to get over your fear of the game's cursed name, and see for yourself the charms it brings, as in quality entertainment and big cash winnings.
You can, by the way, play this slot machine for free online, or go for free mobile slots play from your phone. It works equally well either way, either right here from this review, or at Stake casino itself.

Hex Appeal Slots Betting Limits
Another magical element of this video slot game is just how welcoming it is of all players. Once you're ready to move from free play to real money wagers, you can do so incrementally starting at just $0.10 and moving up from there. Or if you're a high roller slots player, the $1,000 max wager is going to be the perfect starting point for you!
Either way, it's the same fun, with all the same prizes and bonus features on the line. So if luck is on your side, you can win big time, whichever way you choose.
Hex Appeal Paytable
In terms of what you can win, payouts are fairly traditional, for combinations of 3, 4,or 5 matching symbols respectively. There are 50 paylines in total, which if you're interested can be seen in their various constellations under the game info when you have it open. Otherwise this paytable is an excellent indication of what's up for grabs.

Note: In base play the top prize will be 25,000X your bet, while Enhancer modes and the Bonus Buys when activated, will up that to a massive 50,000X payout potential.
Hex Appeal Bonus Features
With a name inspired by the magical wonders of voodoo, there's no surprise that Hex Appeal has got all sorts of powerful potions up its virtual sleeve. Packed with bonus features and their winning potential, this game is certainly intriguing, with the possibility of these goodies being delivered on any spin.
Wild symbols
Book symbols
Ghost symbols
The possibilities being:
Instant Prize symbol. This is a symbol that gives you instant prize multipliers of anywhere from 1X up to a top 5,000X applied to your prize money. | ![]() ![]() | |
Multiplier symbol. This is a symbol that keeps on giving. Once a multiplier lands - in this case valued at 2X, 3X, 5X, or 10X - it'll be removed from the screen and held offstage, with new symbols spun through the empty spot it left behind. Once all possible prizes are collected, all multiplier values will be added up, and your prize amount multiplied accordingly. | ![]() ![]() | |
Collector symbols. This fearsome cauldron is actually very user-friendly basically aggregating all available prizes from the special feature symbols onscreen. | ![]() ![]() | |
Transform symbols. A magical potion no less, this vial of blue liquid magic has the ability to change all the symbols on one or more reels into ghosts, and all the glory that entails. | ![]() ![]() | |
Super Transform symbols. An even more potent concoction, this symbol changes ALL the symbols onscreen into ghosts! And you know what that means…. | ![]() ![]() | |
Scatter symbols. We'll get to that next, but basically as imagined, the trigger for free spins. | ![]() ![]() | |
No Bronze Coins. A nice touch that ensures that any further coins that land under the ghosts are either silver or gold, and not the less valuable bronze metal. | ![]() ![]() |
Scatter symbols
Scatter symbols, as we just mentioned, can be
Free spins
The more scatter symbols that were involved in triggering the bonus round, the higher the number of free spins and value of the remaining symbols will be on the wheel.
More free spins can be retriggered, but only by a ghost in this round.
Enhancer mode
While not a guarantee, if you'd like to increase your chance of landing the Free Games bonus round, you can do so with a quick enhancement, at a relatively low cost.
Enhancer name | Cost | What you receive |
---|---|---|
Enhancer 1 | 2X your bet | 4X higher odds of triggering Free Games |
Enhancer 2 | 8X your bet | 4X higher odds of triggering Free Games with only wilds and ghosts in the book symbols |
Bonus Buys
For a sure thing, you can go with a Bonus Buy instead, though keep in mind these are quite costly.
Bonus Buy name | Cost | What you receive |
---|---|---|
Bonus Buy 1 | 100X your bet | Free Games with 3+ scatter symbols |
Bonus Buy 2 | 500X your bet | Free Games with 5 scatter symbols |
Bonus Buy 3 | 1,000 your bet | Voodoo Magic! |
Voodoo Magic, by the way, is free spins with only coins, cauldrons, no bronze coins, and multiplier symbols active, for greater prize value.
Streamers Who Play Hex Appeal
The reality is, Hex Appeal picked up traction from the day it dropped, in large part thanks to the legion of dedicated Stake streamers out there.
Big names like Roshtein for example, were already live streaming this slots sensation from day one, and enjoying massive live wins we'll just add. Up and comers Jake & Slater were quickly singing Hex Appeal's praises in their casino streams as well (you can still catch the clip on YouTube).
All and all, it's garnered quite a lot of attention from the slots streaming community, thanks to the high stakes play and bonus buy options, a natural fit for the format, and something that we as viewers certainly appreciate.
Play Hex Appeal Slots on Mobile
Since we're writing this Stake slots review circa 2025, it would be bizarre to even imagine a game that's not mobile compatible. Predominantly because Stake is a 100% mobile compatible casino; as in, browser-based, no download required, ideal for any operating system or device, inherently.
And if you're looking for mobile crypto slots, we'll help you out and just point out that Hex Appeal qualifies as that perfectly too. So bonus points for that.
Hex Appeal FAQs
Is there a hidden whammy we've yet to reveal in this cursedly named video slots game? Is that the question you're still pondering? Well, no of course not. It's a perfectly reliable game from an excellent operator. But name aside, we can see why one is always suspect. Or at least wants to know more before taking the plunge. In either event, these FAQs should do the trick.
- Is Hex Appeal a Stake original?
- Did Stake develop the Hex Appeal game?
- Is Hex Appeal a crypto slot?
- Are there geo-restrictions on Hex Appeal play?
- Which operating systems support this slot's play?
- Can I use any web browser for playing Hex Appeal slots?
- Is the Hex Appeal payout rate considered good?
- Is Hex Appeal's top prize 25,000X or 50,000X my bet?
- Is the Enhancer mode worthwhile in slots?
- Do slots Bonus Buys payoff?
- Which of Hex Appeal's Bonus Buy options is best?
- Is Hex Appeal a provably fair game?
- Are there any tricks to winning when playing Hex Appeal slots?
- Is the very high volatility of this game a good thing?
- Are there similar slot games you'd recommend?
1.) Is Hex Appeal a Stake original?
Hex Appeal is definitely exclusive to Stake casino, making it totally unique to Stake. But it's not an original in the classic way that terms used in online gaming.
Stake originals are crypto games developed in-house by the casino. Titles like Mines, Crash, Cases, and Plinko; with simpler user interfaces and the provably fair algorithm.
Back to FAQ2.) Did Stake develop the Hex Appeal game?
Hex Appeal is the brainchild of Massive Studios, which is a Carrot Gaming brand, like Titan Gaming and Twist Gaming.
Carrot Gaming, for its part, is a company under the umbrella of the parent entity Easygo which is also the holder of Stake.com and the Kick streaming platform. So in a way, Easygo is the mothership, and in a roundabout way, you could say Stake created it. Or more accurately, is the sole carrier of Hex Appeal and inherently, the only recipient of all Massive Studios games.
Back to FAQ3.) Is Hex Appeal a crypto slot?
Yes, since you can bet with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and all sorts of other digital currency options in between, Hex Appeal certainly qualifies as a crypto slot machine.
In fact, as there now over 20 picks for crypto banking at Stake, as well as the ability to buy crypto direct from your casino wallet, it's ideally suited for that.
If you prefer, of course, you can also go the fiat route. That is gambling in Canadian dollars, Argentine peso, Japanese yen or a whole roster of other locals.
Back to FAQ4.) Are there geo-restrictions on Hex Appeal play?
Like all Carrot Gaming brands, Massive Studio slots at Stake are widely available and subject to fewer geo-restrictions than say some of the Pragmatic Play slots like Big Bass Rock and Roll.
However, as a legally operating online casino, with a Curacao gaming license, the casino does apply certain geo-restrictions, in general. To get around them you can opt to use a VPN service to change your IP address, which is something many Stake players do.
Or if you're in a place like the US, the casino now has a dedicated site there; though while you can win cash prizes, it's more of what's called a social casino platform for local legislative reasons.
Back to FAQ5.) Which operating systems support this slot's play?
When it comes to playing Hex Appeal, or Stake casino games in general, it doesn't really matter which operating system you use. That means, if you're playing on your cell phone for example, it can be an iOS, Android, or Windows device.
Linux, KaiOS, HarmonyOS, and other lesser-known ones should all also work perfectly well. And desktop vs. mobile isn't a factor, so don't worry about that. Hex Appeal looks and works great on any device.
Back to FAQ6.) Can I use any web browser for playing Hex Appeal slots?
Similarly, you can use any browser to play at Stake, and therefore by extension, the Hex Appeal game. We're personally fans of Chrome, with Safari and Microsoft Edge quick follow ups. But feel free to try Opera, Brave, or Firefox, too, as the Stake website and games are designed to be browser-agnostic. So the slots will look and work just as well, wherever you play.
Back to FAQ7.) Is the Hex Appeal payout rate considered good?
At 96.59% RTP we'd say the Hex Appeal return to player is in the just above average range for online slots. That is, there are definitely games with better odds, including Stake's exclusive line of Enhanced RTP slots, which all have a minimum payout of 98%.
Granted, not all slots pay at their theoretical RTP on any given day. As Roobet shows us with its Live RTP tool, within any hour of any day, a slots machine can go way over the 100% RTP mark for the short term, though this is de facto, and there's no way of predicting it. However, it could be your luck to be betting on the upswing of the curve. You never know really… that's the beauty of the game.
Back to FAQ8.) Is Hex Appeal's top prize 25,000X or 50,000X my bet?
We can see how that can be confusing as both are in fact correct. That is, in base play the top prize is 25,000X your bet. However, when you activate any of the Enhancer or Bonus Buy options, the prize potential immediately jumps to a massive 50,000X your bet.
Back to FAQ9.) Is the Enhancer mode worthwhile in slots?
In general, the Enhancer mode, in our opinion, is nor here nor there. That is, it's a nice thing to offer players the possibility to increase their odds of triggering the bonus round, which is undeniably a highlight of any slots game. But it's not a guarantee, so it's almost like a gamble on a gamble.
So if you want, go for it, as it's not all that costly, especially when playing at lower stakes. But if not, you may want to continue trying your luck the standard way, which may simply take a bit longer to trigger.
Back to FAQ10.) Do slots Bonus Buys payoff?
As with Enhancers, it's hard to say. Slots streamers obviously love Bonus Buys, but they've generally got bigger bankrolls due to sponsorship, so they can afford the risk.
For us regular players, we'd say it's a pretty big spend, even for a sure thing. So if you do opt for a Hex Appeal Bonus Buy, you may want to do so on a smaller bet amount, to prevent it from getting too pricey - remember they're 100X, 500X, and 1,000X your bet respectively.
But ultimately, whatever we think, only you can do the cost benefit analysis for yourself.
Back to FAQ11.) Which of Hex Appeal's Bonus Buy options is best?
If we can't say whether or not to act on the Bonus Buy, we definitely can't say which one to pick. Well, hmmm, if you really insist, that's a tough call. Because our instinct is to say the 100X one as it's cheapest. But if you're going for the thrill, should you maybe go all out that one time and make that a bit more? Again, we'll leave this one for you to decide. But maybe try it in free play mode first to help you figure it out.
Back to FAQ12.) Is Hex Appeal a provably fair game?
While Hex Appeal is not a provably fair game, it is indeed 100% fair. How do we know this? Well because it uses an RNG.
An RNG, or random number generator, of course, is the sophisticated algorithm used in reliable online slots that constantly generates unpredictable sequences of numbers to determine each spin's outcome. Its main benefit is ensuring fairness and integrity, as it guarantees completely random results that cannot be manipulated by either the player or the casino.
Also, Stake is a licensed casino. And it wouldn't risk its reputation on offering anything but fair games.
Back to FAQ13.) Are there any tricks to winning when playing Hex Appeal slots?
No, there's no tricks to beating the machine when it comes to Hex Appeal or any other online slot machine play. Sure you can try and put a curse on it, or attempt to bewitch the virtual wheels. But no matter how much you may believe in such powers, the game mechanics don't.
So what you'll need instead is good bankroll management and common sense. And if you need help, perhaps limitations on how much or how often you're betting.
Back to FAQ14.) Is the very high volatility of this game a good thing?
Very high volatility in online slots means the game pays out infrequently, but offers the potential for very large wins when it does. This can be a good thing for players who enjoy chasing big jackpots and are patient enough to endure longer periods without significant wins.
Generally such games are best suited for players with a larger bankroll who can withstand "dry spells." That being said, in a game like Hex Appeal that accommodates bets of just a dime a round, most players should be able to endure the wait.
Back to FAQ15.) Are there similar slot games you'd recommend?
There are a number of other online slots with the Hex name in them, including Hex from Relax Gaming, which is also available at Stake as well as other leading crypto casinos like BC.Game.
In addition, if it's the voodoo theme you're after, there's Voodoo and Voodoo Dice from Endorphina, Voodoo from BGaming, and other similarly named games from OneTouch and Pragmatic Play. Of course there are also plenty of games with magic, witches, and general mystery too. But we'll let you do the digging for those.
Back to FAQOur Expert Opinion on Stake's Exclusive Hex Appeal Slots Game
Overall, we'd say Hex Appeal is a truly charming game. It does its magic from the get-go with excellent animation (as in gorgeous graphics), combined with a simple user interface that makes it a pleasure to play.
The many bonus features add to the allure, making it both endlessly entertaining as much as lucrative, especially when you add in the betting limits and max win potential which can make it rather profitable.
But since we promote gambling for fun rather than earning potential, we'd say take both elements as we've illustrated into account. Then easily conclude for yourself why we, as much as the top slots streamers, have taken a deep interest in this game and continue to play it, long after writing this review.
