Monopoly Live from Evolution Gaming has been all the rage at live casinos. It's a live game show that combines everything you love from Dream Catcher and the classic board game, along with some extra virtual reality features. With a licence from Hasbro, Evolution has really worked with the elements from the famous board game while adding awesome features to deliver a truly innovative yet familiar gaming experience.
Since the game's release in February 2019, Monopoly Live quickly garnered top industry awards, including Game of the Year 2019 from EGR, and then Game of the Year 2020 from Gaming Intelligence.
We had a great time testing Monopoly Live, and we'll tell you all about its special features and the brilliant game play that has players raving about this title from Evolution.
Evolution Gaming has translated one of the oldest and most popular board games into a live game show format. They've added the popular spinning wheel, which you might already know from Dream Catcher and Crazy Time, as a key component to the game and mixed in Monopoly features like Community Chest, houses and hotels, Jail and of course GO! Largely speaking, Monopoly Live is comprised of two main rounds:
Money Wheel Game
3D Bonus Round
The Money Wheel is the equivalent of the base game, and the Monopoly features from the board game can be found in the bonus round. We go into the details of each below.
Monopoly Live Wheel
Otherwise known as the Money Wheel, the Monopoly Live Wheel is the first round of the game. It is very similar to the wheel in Dream Catcher. The Wheel is divided into 54 slots, which are the numbers 1, 2, 5, 10, 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls. You place a bet on which number the wheel will stop at, and the game show host will spin the wheel.
If the wheel stops at your number, it will give you a payout according to that number. For example, if it lands on the number 2, you will get a 2x payout. There is also a Chance slot that will give you a random cash prize or a multiplier bonus. If you get Chance with a multiplier bonus, then there will be another spin on the Wheel, with all the same bets.
If the Wheel lands on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls, you will enter the 3D bonus round. Note that you must have placed a bet on either one of them to qualify!
Monopoly Bonus Round
Mr. Monopoly
When the Wheel lands on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls, the Monopoly 3D bonus round starts and this is where the game really gets exciting. It might just be even livelier than the board game! You will see Mr. Monopoly walking across an augmented reality 3D version of the board game, collecting prizes and multipliers for you. We will talk a bit more about all the crazy features in the bonus round later.
As Monopoly Live is a multi-player game, players who are in the game but did not place a bet on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls will be able to watch the bonus round but will not win any of the prizes.
How to Play Monopoly Live
Evolution's game shows are famous for being easy to play. They are no complicated rules, but as with any game there are some basics to getting started. We've outlined the steps for you below so you can jump in right away:
Begin by choosing a bet size. It starts at 10 cents up and goes up to much higher. Then choose which of the 7 possible outcomes you want to bet on. That is, the numbers 1, 2, 5, 10 and 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls.
This is a live multiplayer game that is streamed in real time, and it only starts when all the players in that round have placed their bets. This means that it's not possible to join a game that is already in progress and you will have to wait for the next one to start.
Once everyone has placed their bets, the game will start!
Tip: You can place bets on all of the 7 possibilities of course, but some slots like the number 1 doesn't pay out much so it's up to you to decide whether it's worth the money.
The Money Wheel in Monopoly Live is similar to the one in Dream Catcher and Crazy Time. It's divided into different coloured fields with different numbers and outcomes. The numbers correspond directly to their payouts, and lower numbers occur more frequently on the wheel. We've listed below each bet option's payouts and frequency on the wheel in the table below.

Monopoly Live Bonus Round Features
Evolution Gaming's Monopoly is of course more than the Money Wheel. The bonus features that are activated when the wheel lands on the non-numbered slots is what really makes this game special. These features include:
Chance:
Technically, this isn't in the bonus round in itself but it's still a bonus. When the Wheel stops on Chance, you get a surprise cash prize or a multiplier, with the Wheel being given another spin.
2 Rolls:
When the Wheel lands on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls, the game will open up the Monopoly board. It's a superb 3D augmented reality board and it starts with a Zepellin plane that contains 2 dice. The dice are rolled and Mr. Monopoly will pop out and walk across the board to collect cash prizes, multipliers for you through classic Monopoly elements like Go!, Community Chest and so on. Since this is 2 Rolls, this will happen twice - once Mr. Monopoly has completed the first walk, the dice will be rolled again.
4 Rolls:
Just like 2 Rolls, except that this time you get 4 dice rolls, meaning Mr. Monopoly will walk across the board 4 times. With 4 dice rolls and the numerous possibilities on the board itself, you can be looking at a maximum payout of half a million dollars.
Monopoly Live Tips and Strategies
Monopoly is a game of luck, and as with any other game of luck, there aren't any strategies or guarantees. That having been said, we do have a couple of tips when it comes to playing this game.
We recommend always placing a bet on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls. Remember, you can only participate in the bonus round if you placed a bet on these two slots. Otherwise, you will only watch other players play.
Is it worth betting on the number 1 slot? The number 1 will only give you back your bet on 1, and if you are always betting on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls, then it doesn't add up. Of course, it's better than getting nothing at all. But if your plan is to hedge your bet with lower numbers because they occur more frequently, then betting on number 2 will at least cover your bet on the number and on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls. All that having been said, there is really no guarantee.
As with all games of luck, managing your bankroll is key. It could take a while before the Money Wheel lands on 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls to open up the bonus game. So make sure you know how much you can afford and pace your game accordingly.
Monopoly Live Bet Limits
Bet sizes for Monopoly Live starts at just 10 cents. It's a live game which those on a budget can easily enjoy without worrying about bankroll. But high rollers are well catered to as well. Like live casino games in general, the upper bet limit goes up to $1,000 a spin.
The different bet sizes in Monopoly are:
$0.10
$0.50
$1
$2
$5
$25
$500
$1,000
Good to Know: The max payout in Monopoly Live is $500,000 via the Bonus Round activated by 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls. The max bet allowed on these two bonus slots are $500.
Monopoly Live Chat and Multiplayer Features
Monopoly Live is a multiplayer game with built in chat features so you can communicate with other players. Players are not playing against each other, but with each other since. In theory, everyone in that round can make the same bets and all win the same prizes, although obviously people don't always bet the same. Anyhow, this non-competitive atmosphere definitely makes for a friendly mood in the chat.
Is Monopoly Live a Fair and Licensed Game?
Evolution Gaming is the most trusted and established live casino game developer. All of Evolution's games, including Monopoly Live, hold licences from some of the strictest and most respected gambling regulators in the world:
MGA Malta
Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGSS)
UK Gambling Commission
Then there is the fact that Evolution has Hasbro's blessing in developing this game. Monopoly Live has a licence from Hasbro, the famous board game company that made the original board game. That is quite something!
Can Monopoly Live be played in Demo mode?
Live games can only be played with real money and are not available in demo mode. Although Evolution Gaming has developed some hyper realistic computer simulations called First Person for some of its games like Blackjack, Roulette and simpler game shows such as Dream Catcher and Mega Ball, this is not available for Monopoly Live.
However, with the minimum bet being just 10 cents it is very affordable, especially if you have a casino bonus to boost your bankroll.
The Expert Conclusion on Monopoly Live
The Monopoly board game is one of the most classic games, and Evolution Gaming gives it an extraordinary twist in this live game show format. It starts with a Wheel like in Dream Catcher, and then it opens up into an absolutely amazing 3D rendering of a Monopoly world.
You'll see the board, but you'll also see 3D hotels, houses and everything from the board game brought to life via augmented reality. And thanks to the licensing with Hasbro, you get all the Monopoly elements just as you know them from the board game - and maybe even better!
It's a really simple game that's easy to get into, with no rules you need to learn beforehand. The graphics are really mind-blowing too. With bet size starting at 10 cents, it's definitely worth trying Monopoly Live for yourself.
