Mines is a fantastic arcade game that can be played at crypto casinos such as Stake and Roobet. As with many crypto games, the aesthetics to Mines is clean and lean. It's all about the mechanics and will appeal to those players who enjoy a game for the way it plays rather than for its appearance.
The beauty of Mines and other crypto arcade offerings is that they're changing what casino games can be. It's not just slots, cards or roulette anymore, but with these new games you can win money whenever there is a right or wrong answer.
The basics are simple. You'll see a grid with some tiles and you have to uncover them. You'll have multipliers underneath some squares, but if you uncover a mine you lose.
Mines is clearly inspired by the classic Minesweeper game. If you ever played Minesweeper or any of its variants, you will get right into this. You may remember Minesweeper from the old Windows computers back in the 90s. If not, we promise you that Mines is simple and really easy to pick up.
The key difference between Mines and Minesweeper is that in Mines you can control the settings, like how many mines there are – and depending on your bet size, you could potentially win up to $1 million.

How to Play Mines
Mines has a 5 x 5 grid, which is the main game area. On the left, you will be able to set the bet options, which starts from $0.10. The max bet will depend on the casino you are playing at, but some such as Cloudbet let you go up to $250 a pop.
Then choose the number of mines you want in the game. It goes from 1 to 24 mines. The more mines there are, the harder it gets, and the higher the payout. As with all fair casino games, the mines' positions will be determined by a random number generator. Once that is all set, click on the Bet button.
You will then have to start uncovering each square by clicking on a tile on the screen. Your job is to open up all the tiles that don't have a mine. If you reveal a mine, you lose.
Each tile you successfully uncover will have a payout. You have the option to cash out your winnings at any time. Say you had set it to 8 mines, but after uncovering just 10 tiles, you're happy with your earnings and decide it's not worth risking what you have already won. At this point you can cashout.
Where can I play Mines for free?
Stake and many other casinos will let you play Mines for free in demo mode. Some casinos will ask that you create an account first but that can be done really quickly. This will let you get familiar with the interface, even though this game is really so simple we don't think it's an issue.
As usual, if you're looking to win money, do remember that free play in demo mode won't cut it and you will have to make real money bets.
Game features in Mines
Being a modern arcade game, Mines likes to keep things straightforward. What you see is what you get, and there are no hidden features that are unlocked in bonus rounds like in slot games. The key features that give you control over the game include:
1.) Multipliers for Mines
Adding more mines to the game will increase the payout of each tile you uncover. That's because the more mines there are, the harder it gets to safely uncover a tile. Basically, your appetite for risk will be rewarded.
2.) Cash out at any time
Players get complete control in the Mines game. You can decide to cash out whenever you want. If you are happy with your success and what you have already won, you can claim your win and end the game.
That means you don't have to play each round to the end. As more experienced gamblers well know, the key to winning is knowing when it is good to walk out with a profit, rather than risking until it's too late and losing it all.
3.) Provably Fair game
Mines is Provably Fair game. That means it's a game that's written onto the blockchain and you can verify the fairness of a specific round of the game yourself. This is a feature unique to crypto games.
Mines Game FAQ
- Are there strategies to play Mines?
- Do I have to download Mines to play?
- Is Mines the same as Minesweeper?
- Is there a Mines app?
- When does a round of Mines end?
1.) Are there strategies to play Mines?
Yes and no. Let's start with saying that Mines is a game that is suitable for complete beginners because it is so simple. You don't need a strategy at all to play this game and win. Now, that having been said, there are some preferred ways that more experienced players may have.
One popular Mines strategy is to start by placing more mines into the game. This increases your multiplier and payout per tile. You therefore only need to uncover a few tiles before you start to see a decent profit. Once you're happy with the amount you've won, you should cash out rather than play until the end of the game – at least according to this strategy.
Then there is the opposite strategy, which is more common among players who like to take things easy. Play with fewer mines and uncover more tiles. This will bring in a more modest but steady win.
As with any casino game, what is best will ultimately depend on your own preferences. Try the game out and the different styles to decide what's right for you.
Back to TOC2.) Do I have to download Mines to play?
Not at all. You play Mines directly out of the casino's website, which is browser based. There is no software or app to download, whether you are playing on your computer or your phone.
Back to TOC3.) Is Mines the same as Minesweeper?
While some of us may have found the numbers in Minesweeper confusing, Mines has done away with that and the game feels much more intuitive.
And as much as we love nostalgic computer games, we have to say Mines is much more appealing aesthetically!
Back to TOC4.) Is there a Mines app?
They are all HTML5 casinos, which means they are all web browser-based and automatically adjust themselves to your device. There is no Mines app for download.
Back to TOC5.) When does a round of Mines end?
Another scenario is when you voluntarily cash out and claim your winnings, although there are still more tiles to be uncovered. In this case, the game will end and you can start a new round.
Then there is the ultimate scenario, in which you successfully uncover all the mines free tiles, leaving only the mines untouched. Then the game will end and all the winnings will be added to your bankroll.
Back to TOCThe Experts' Conclusion on the Mines Game
At the same time, by giving players different options in setting the number of mines and cashing out at any time, the game offers enough flexibility and room for experienced players to up both the adrenaline level and their winnings.
Payouts can be significant once you start exploring this game a bit. Of course, we always love a nostalgic nod to classic computer games that we grew up playing too!
